Spiti is a high-altitude cold desert in the trans-Himalaya, with most villages above 3,500 m. The valley is reached from Shimla via Kinnaur, or seasonally from Manali over Kunzum Pass. Expect long driving days, thin air, and centuries-old Buddhist monasteries at places like Key, Tabo and Dhankar.
